BLUEJAY BOYS DROP HEARTBREAKER 5-4 IN BASEBALL ACTION
In a game heard yesterday right here on WJMT and wjmtfm.com, the Merrill Bluejays boys’ baseball team dropped a 5-4 thriller to the Antigo Red Robins in conference play at Kertz Park in Antigo. Bluejay starter Cam Wallin gave up five runs on five hits in the bottom half of the first inning after Merrill scratched out a single tally in the top half of the frame. Merrill tallied three in the top of the third after two Red Robin outfielders collided on what turned out to be only a single, plating two before scoring another run on a double steal to bring the score to 5-4. After that, neither team scored again.
Wallin, the AmericInn player of the game, took the loss for the Bluejays, giving up only one hit after the first inning while striking out eight and walking four in 5 2/3 innings of work before Noah Klug got the last out in the bottom of the sixth after Wallin had to leave the game due to the WIAA 100 pitch limit.
The boys resume action Thursday night on the road in a conference contest versus the Lakeland Thunderbirds, while the girls’ softball team has back-to-back conference home games both Thursday and Friday at the MARC. Pre-game coverage will begin both days at 4:45 with the first pitch at 5:00. All the games can be heard on WJMT, wjmtfm.com, and the two girls contests can be seen on the WJMT TV Channel on YouTube.
